Getting
into the exercise habit can help you reach and maintain a healthy weight before
you get pregnant. Doing so is not only healthier for baby, but can also mean a
more comfortable nine months for mom. Preparing
Yourself for the Marathon of Pregnancy
Pregnancy and childbirth are physically demanding. Developing and sticking with
an exercise routine while you are trying to conceive may help you have a healthier
and more comfortable pregnancy. A regular exercise routine can also help you be
physically prepared for labor and delivery.
Exercise
before - and if your doctor approves, during - pregnancy can strengthen the muscles
that will be used heavily during pregnancy. While you will want to avoid exercises
like sit-ups and other exercises that require to lay flat on your back once you
are pregnant, regular exercise can build your endurance and help you get back
in shape more easily after your baby is born. If
you already hit the gym regularly, congratulations! Keep up the good work, with
your doctor's permission. Once you are pregnant, chances are you will be able
to continue your exercise routine, although you may need to adjust the intensity
at which you workout. It
is not too late to develop the good habit of exercise if it's not currently part
of your lifestyle. Consider cardiovascular exercises such as walking or swimming
that are easier on the joints than jogging or aerobics. Yoga is a good choice
for a relaxing workout that gently stretches your muscles. It's best to avoid
activities during which you could fall, such as horseback riding, rollerblading
and skiing. Check with your doctor about which activities he or she recommends. [
